Job Description:
- The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting, processing, and storing specimens while ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance with established procedures.
- This role requires strong venipuncture skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid phlebotomy certification, if required by the state.
- Minimum 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2 4 years of overall experience.
- Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience preferred.
- Performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging, and decontamination.
- Updating patient information and recording maintenance data.
- Using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Matching laboratory requisitions to specimen tubes.
- Handling specimen storage, splitting, freezing, and packaging for transport.
- Answering inquiries and reading lab results.
- Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
- Explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients.
- Perform venipunctures with proper technique.
- Verify physician orders and requisition forms.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and prepare specimens based on test requirements.
- Check test requisitions or labels for accuracy.
- Package and transport specimens appropriately.
- Maintain specimen integrity through proper storage and handling.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual departmental training.
- Answer phone calls and communicate laboratory results as needed.
