This position is regular, non-exempt part-time.

Salary: $1,704.91 - $2,547.08 monthly (Salary Group TEXAS-A-16).

Travel: up to 5% of time.

Overview Work in an environment that values a mission of wellness and independence for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The state supported living centers serve people with medical fragility or behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services at 13 centers throughout the state.

This role involves advanced (senior-level) restoration, renovation, building maintenance and construction work.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)

Attends work on a regular basis, may be required to work rotating schedule, extended shift, overtime, or be on call to meet operational needs.

Performs inspections, adjustments, maintenance and repair on building systems for various trades (plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry, painting, electrical) to ensure proper maintenance and repair.

Demonstrates use of hand tools and equipment while performing repairs/inspections.

Evaluates work to be performed and determines the best method for maintenance and repair.

Performs repairs and renovations to modernize a building, building system or adapt it to new uses; designs projects to conform to applicable codes and standards.

Selects appropriate material, recognizes failures, identifies causes, and determines corrective action.

Acts as a lead worker on projects, establishes work schedules, assigns staff, and oversees repairs/renovations.

Maintains safe and uninterrupted services to campus operations and programs; recognizes improper operation and deterioration.

Uses hand tools, power tools, and tests safety equipment.

Accurately processes paperwork and maintains records on work orders, projects and material requisitions.

May operate machinery such as backhoes and forklifts as necessary.

MAY train others on procedures; maintains training records.

Participates in supporting disaster response or continuity of operations (COOP).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of repair, maintenance, operations of buildings, building systems and grounds.

Knowledge of electronics, boilers, painting, plastering, carpentry; building materials; plumbing and electrical fixtures; welding, HVAC, sanitation, refrigeration.

Knowledge of industrial safety, fire, and safety regulations.

Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.

Skill in preventative maintenance and inspections of buildings and building systems.

Ability to perform maintenance and follow instructions.

Ability to estimate materials and apply proper methods.

Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, or sketches.

Ability to organize preventive maintenance programs.

Ability to supervise work of others.

Ability to work independently or with a team.

Ability to work harmoniously with co‑workers and other staff.

Ability to solve problems, make decisions, use good judgment.

Ability to communicate effectively orally or in writing with other members of the maintenance and facility team.

Qualifications & Requirements

Valid Texas Driver’s License (or obtain within 90 days).

High School diploma, GED, or relevant experience in masonry, carpentry, painting, repairs, renovation, or maintenance.

Vocational training in a designated trade is preferred.

Must pass fingerprint background check, pre‑employment drug screen, registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, HHS LEIE.

Males 18–25 must register with Selective Service.

All State Supported Living Center Employees subject to random drug testing.
