Base pay range $52.00/hr - $85.00/hr
Our client is seeking a Contractor to work as part of a high functioning team of engineers focused on materials processing, supply chain development and supplier qualification for next generation material and components for sodium-cooled fast reactors.
The primary function of this role will be to develop material property correlations and advanced material performance models of complex materials phenomena based on data from literature and testing programs. These material performance models provide key input for the design and licensing of the Natrium reactor.
Responsibilities
Compile datasets from literature for basic physical and mechanical properties, complex mechanical phenomena (e.g. creep, fatigue, creep-fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, and fracture), irradiation performance, corrosion, and tribology
Perform Qualification of Existing Data per ASME NQA-1-2015
Develop material property correlations and advanced material performance models as input to computer codes and methods to demonstrate the performance of reactor systems, structures, and components.
Plan, execute, and oversee test programs designed to address data gaps
Perform quantitative and statistical analysis on test data and generate technical reports to document new knowledge related to reactor design and qualifications
Update and maintain a Python-based material database as well as associated design handbooks for Natrium
Key Qualifications and Skills
Minimum of 4 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or a Master’s degree. A degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is desired.
A solid understanding of metallurgy including fabrication and thermomechanical processing of ferrous (e.g., ferritic-martensitic steels) and nonferrous (e.g., nickel-base) alloys is required
A general understanding of the design of nuclear reactor and subsequent impacts on materials would be considered a plus
Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems
Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications
