Learn more at www.aquatech.com. Aquatech needs a full-time Laboratory and Treatability Technician to work in our Canonsburg, PA location. The Technician will perform the duties described in the job description below and will be considered a non-exempt employee.

Responsibilities

Develop operating procedures and perform tests for various water and wastewater treatment operations, such as:

Jar tests for determining and optimizing chemical dosing for various treatment approaches

Silt Density Index (SDI)

Bench and Pilot Scale evaluations

Columns and batch testing for ion exchange resins, carbon adsorption, activated alumina, etc.

Filtration systems (conventional, membrane, ceramic)

Collect data by measuring and recording operating conditions such as pumping rates, pH, oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), temperature, and pressure

Operate and perform light maintenance on small-scale equipment such as pumps, heaters, and mixers

Prepare samples for testing

Prepare reagents for in-house lab analyses

Perform various laboratory tests including:

pH

Dissolved Oxygen (DO)

Color

Temperature (T)

ORP

Alkalinity (ALK)

Calcium & Magnesium Hardness

Total Hardness

Total Suspended Solids (TSS)

Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)

Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)

Total Organic Carbon (TOC)

Turbidity

Phosphorus/Phosphate

TKN/Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate

Combustion Ion Chromatography (CIC)

Pull samples for third-party laboratory analysis

Maintain reagents and lab inventory

Maintain calibration records for lab equipment

Maintain SDS documentation for lab chemicals and reagents

Manage and communicate data

Maintain the cleanliness of lab equipment, including plasticware and glassware used in lab analyses and operating areas

Qualifications

Mechanical aptitude/technical background

Experience or training in bench-top wet inorganic chemistry analytical procedures

Detail oriented

Ability to understand and follow detailed lab procedures and safety sheets

Work precisely in solution preparation, measuring devices, data handling, and instrument operation

Demonstrate initiative and willingness to learn and grow in responsibility on the job

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

Communicate with team members and follow precise chemical data and procedures

Proficiency with standard laboratory instruments such as pH and conductivity meters, TSS, probes for process variables, HACH spectrophotometer, analytical balances, and volumetric glassware

Non-colorblind

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Physical Job Demands Lifting/carrying/moving up to 50 lbs, may require climbing ladders, and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on site. May involve sitting at a desk for extended periods and requires a high degree of concentration in a busy environment.

Qualifications

BS degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or related field
