Overview Under general direction, responsible for leading and participation in installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, storage, and backup infrastructure in support of business processing requirements. Provides work leadership and guidance to System Administrators.

Under general supervision, responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining server and storage infrastructure in support of business processing requirements. Performs day to day and ongoing system administration activities. Monitors and optimizes systems to ensure optimum performance levels. Maintains compliance with system software licensing.

The City of Glendale does not sponsor any employment-based immigrant visas. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

Performs system administration, analysis, and maintenance for all servers, storage, and backup systems.

Is responsible for the support and administration of approximately 350 Windows servers.

Works with stakeholders to plan, manage, and complete systems related tasks and projects.

Assists in developing project schedules, prioritize tasks, and coordinate resources to meet project schedule requirements.

Manages and allocate disk space to servers as needed utilizing direct attached storage, SAN Storage or internal storage devices as appropriate.

Interfaces with users, consultants, technical teams and vendors for maximum guidance in determining the most appropriate selection of server or storage technologies.

Develops, implement and maintain appropriate tape back-up strategies for all city servers.

Utilizes tools and scripts to manage systems and/or application processes.

Creates and maintain documentation related to system architecture and support processes.

Participates in change control process. Complete change requests. Coordinate work with City departments and within IT.

Maintains server hardware and storage devices. Keep systems system software and firmware up to date.

Provides technical support to other departments as required for server, storage, or backup related objectives.

Identifies opportunities for improvement. Examples include but are not limited to tools, processes, procedures, installation, configuration and troubleshooting techniques.

Implements and monitors appropriate security measures to safeguard the City's infrastructure from physical harm, viruses, unauthorized users, and potential data loss.

Ability to design solutions to meet the City's defined disaster recovery objectives.

Maintains a high level of current knowledge regarding systems, technology, and communications.

Provides on call support during non-business hours.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Engineering and two years experience designing and supporting local and wide area networks, server hardware, operating systems and applications. Industry recognized certifications are preferred including, but not limited to, Microsoft MCSA, VMWare VCP-DCV, and Security+.

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.

Knowledge

Installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems

Administration of VMWare vSphere 6.x environments

Familiar with storage concepts and provisioning

Experience with HPE Nimble Storage preferred

Backups and data protection

Experience with VEEAM Backup and Replication preferred

Disaster recovery concepts and planning

Systems monitoring solutions

Data center operations

Working knowledge of network switching, routing, and firewalls

Project management concepts and resource planning

Skill

Maintaining optimal performance of servers, disk systems, storage devices

Ability

Ability to work effectively with users, technical personnel and consultants to achieve stated objectives

Install, configure and support a variety of computer hardware and software including but not limited to server and desktop operating systems / applications and network hardware and software

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Establish and maintain effective working relationships

Continually learn and demonstrate new skills via hands on training, classroom training and self-study learning methods

Schedule installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with IT policies and procedures

Perform data backups and recoveries according to established procedures

Develops documentation to support daily processes and operations related to managed hardware and software

Special Requirements

Ability to work overtime, shifts, weekends and holidays as required.

A post-offer physical assessment is required. The City of Glendale will incur the cost of all required testing.

The position may include office setting with potential exposure to electrical hazards; ability to lift 50 pounds to waist height and install equipment in racks and cabinets.
