The City of McHenry Police Department is now accepting applications for an IT Specialist. This position works under the general supervision of the IT Manager. The IT Specialist will perform a variety of computer system support duties. Assists in the resolution of computer software and hardware problems, installation of equipment, and configuration of software. Provides routine maintenance to PC’s and peripheral equipment. Assists in the maintenance of the WAN and LAN. Provides excellent customer service through consistent, high-quality interaction via phone, email, tickets, walk-up, and remote support. While this position is supervised by the Police Department, IT employees provide support to all City Departments, including Administration, Community and Economic Development, HR, Finance, Parks & Recreation, and Public Works.
Job Duties
Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers Pursues additional knowledge and IT Certifications Install, assembles and configures computers, monitors, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers, scanners and related hardware; pulls cables and rewires or directs the rewiring of cables as required for new installations and office reconfiguration Acts as a technical resource in assisting users to resolve problems with equipment and data Makes hardware and software acquisition recommendations including helping users assess needs and providing justification for equipment and services. Join computers to the City of McHenry Domain Performs routine maintenance on end user equipment Troubleshoot and repair end user equipment Provide basic instruction on desktop software to individual end users Assist the IT Division by taking calls, accurately recording incidents, providing resolution, and escalating issues in a timely manner Maintain an inventory of end user equipment Investigate and research end user questions and problems Perform other duties as directed Qualifications
Required Education, Training and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent Associates degree or two years of college or technical school with computer system course work or equivalent work experience Good understanding and technical knowledge of current network and PC operating systems, hardware, protocols, and standards, including Microsoft Office, Wide Area and Local Area Networking and knowledge of Software as a Service environment Two years current work experience performing similar duties Required Knowledge and Skills: Must be of high moral and ethical character Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Ability to maintain confidentiality Knowledge in system administration of Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite and other network-based software Ability to install and troubleshoot PC and printer systems in a network environment Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Knowledge of Active Directory Demonstrate problem resolution and task management skills Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations Must be able to lift 75 pounds Certification Requirements: Valid Illinois or Wisconsin Driver's License required Ability to obtain, additional IT related certificates and licensing as required by the IT Manager Physical Demands: Ability to lift and carry equipment Ability to climb flights of stairs/ladders Ability to walk, stand or sit for long periods of time (including driving) Ability to provide assistance to citizens and co-workers Schedule
The position involves regular and irregular work hours as necessary to provide services 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, 52 weeks/year (weekends and holidays included). Regular work hours are defined as Monday thru Friday 8am – 5pm which is the primary schedule for the position. Secondary work schedules vary and include afterhours work for maintenance issues or callouts for emergency service to critical IT services. Benefits
