About This Position
The incumbent is required to have specialized knowledge of the use of: installation, maintenance, repair and interconnect for solid state microprocessor traffic signal controller; working knowledge of fiber optic networking and its peripherals; and various vehicle detection systems, including video detection systems for traffic control and surveillance. The incumbent is required to operate various software to program signal controllers, cell phones, and computer programs for various systems DOTD uses. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. This position performs more complex work and incorporates lead worker responsibilities compared to electronic technician positions. This position requires the incumbent to make minor repairs and perform necessary maintenance on equipment and vehicles used to perform assigned tasks.

Education and Experience:
Three years of experience or training in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR three years of experience or training in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software); OR possession of a CompTIA A+ Certification plus one of the following: 1) Two years of experience in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR 2) Two years of experience in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software).
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in electronics or computer science will substitute for one year of the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess an appropriate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio-telephone license when working with marine and aviation transmitting equipment or with radar.

Job Duties
Performs the most advanced complex duties in installations, customization, maintenance, debugging and troubleshooting of operating systems and vendor supplied software/hardware associated with microprocessor traffic signal controllers and fiber optic networks, liber transceivers, copper wire communication lines, and communication modems.
Conducts advanced level programming in Microprocessor Traffic Signal Controllers and components for field Statewide Traffic Signal Operations; such as signal coordination programs and counting stations using video detection systems.
Travels statewide to perform more complex installations of microprocessor traffic signal controllers and components, such as implementing coordinated systems. Performs more critical and high-profile assignments, statewide maintenance, and other required duties for critical system failures or repairs.
Analyze and interpret results independently by using highly specialized electronic and/or computer devices and tools (ATSI 6, 12, & 18 Channel NEMA conflict monitor), tester, Fluke Digital Multimeter, Fiber Optic Fusion Splicer, Optical Time Domain Reflectometer, Optical Power Meter, Fiber Optic Talk set, Inductive Loop Analyzer, Windows Operating System for controller databases, and video camera detection programming.
May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
