Overview

The Tax Manager, Core Tax Services is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, and identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. The Manager applies knowledge to understand potential tax issues and communicates potential risks and changes in tax policy. The Manager may also be involved in marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise and may provide written tax advice to clients. Job Duties

Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens; ensures self and client service teams comply with Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM). Conducts top level review of tax returns and resolves tax issues with client; involves specialists where appropriate. Communicates with client and Assurance any issues identified in tax accrual reviews. Plans and reviews the tax process and procedures, including budgeting and staffing, monitoring engagement process, timely billing, and collection of accounts receivable. Manages client relationships/expectations in accordance with the project. Provides timely tax advice to clients. Research: Identifies when research is needed; frames issues to be researched and reports the analysis clearly. Applies Firm standards for preparation of WTA and tax returns; involves firm specialists as appropriate. ASC 740 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals: Applies Firm policies and TQM regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48; explains components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to the client. Plans tax accrual reviews with Assurance, including budget, scope, and delivery dates; utilizes and manages STS as needed. Tax Consulting: Develops, recommends, and implements efficient methods to maximize client benefits by reducing taxes. Assesses applicability of CTS and STS consulting specialties for each client; develops work plans and coordinates STS assistance on ongoing projects. Serves as a technical resource; ensures client service teams comply with Written Tax Advice (WTA); assists with exam support and effective project delegation to seniors and associates. Tax Specialization: Develops in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more taxation areas (e.g., individual, corporate, property, sales, state and local, international, transfer pricing, credits, etc.). May organize and conduct internal CPE training in area of specialization with Firm specialists. Strategy Development: Introduce and develop new or improved ideas to improve clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel; review tax implications and present alternative actions to clients. Identify lessons learned on prior projects and suggest process improvements. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises associates and senior associates; reviews work and provides feedback; trains on software tools; acts as a career advisor; manages workload and performance feedback. Qualifications & Skills

Education • Bachelors degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred • Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred Experience • Five (5) or more years of prior relevant tax experience; public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience required • Prior supervisory experience required • Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty preferred License/Certifications • CPA, Attorney (admitted in the U.S.), or EA required; other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role preferred Software • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred Language • N/A Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Superior verbal and written communication skills • Ability to delegate work effectively • Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills; good decision-making • Ability to work well in a team; capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals • Ability to compose written tax advice; capable of maintaining client relationships; executive presence as primary client contact for issues and resolutions About Us
