Impact Cooling is developing next-generation data center cooling using innovative direct-to-chip air cooling. Our approach is designed to reduce energy consumption and eliminate the need for liquid cooling infrastructure, cutting water use and simplifying deployment across a wide range of environmental conditions. By reducing reliance on water and traditional A/C equipment, our solution can significantly reduce total data center utility costs (deployment dependent). Impact Cooling is leading sustainable advancements in cooling systems for a better and more efficient future.

Role Description We are seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer to join our team on-site in Fort Collins, CO. The Mechanical Engineer will support the design, validation and implementation of mechanical and thermal solutions. The role includes numerical modeling, CFD, CAD design, hands‑on prototyping, manufacturing support, testing and analysis. In addition to these core responsibilities, you will help execute customer and government‑funded projects and take on other team responsibilities as needed. This role may support U.S. government customers and defense‑related programs (e.g., DARPA). This role is open to new graduates. A Master’s degree is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

Design, validation, and implementation of mechanical and thermal solutions for high‑performance cooling products

Create and iterate CAD models, assemblies, and drawings for prototypes and production‑intent hardware

Plan and execute prototype build and test efforts; troubleshoot issues and drive design improvements

Conduct thermal and mechanical validation testing (instrumentation setup, test execution, data analysis, reporting)

Collaborate with cross‑functional teammates and external partners to translate requirements into reliable designs

Perform CFD on CAD model to predict performance; design, build, test and compare against predicted data

Support DFM/DFA efforts including tolerance considerations, BOMs, vendor communication, and build documentation

Contribute to customer deliverables including integration support, test data packages, and technical documentation

Assist with government‑funded project execution as applicable (milestones, validation plans, reporting inputs)

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred)

Experience (academic, internship, or industry) in hardware design and development

Familiarity with thermal systems, heat transfer fundamentals, and/or thermal testing methods

CAD proficiency (SolidWorks/Fusion/Creo/NX or similar)

Strong analytical/problem‑solving skills and clear communication

Ability to work effectively in a fast‑moving, flexible environment

Preferred Qualifications

2+ years of industry experience in mechanical/thermal product development

CFD experience (Solidworks Flow Simulation, FlowTherm, ANSYS Fluent/Icepak)

Experience with electronics cooling (heat sinks, forced convection, fans/blowers, packaging)

Experience taking hardware from prototype to production (DFM/DFA, suppliers, drawing release)

Experience helping bring a new thermal/cooling technology to market

Compensation: $60,000–$75,000 (base) + (equity if applicable)
