Essential Functions
Ensure safe patient care within the peri-op unit by validating patient identification, time outs, resources, and supplies. Serve as a resource to teammates, support services, and physicians; work side‑by‑side with scrub to maintain the sterile field during procedures. Promote and support growth of others through precepting, mentoring, and orientation; act as a positive clinical role model and provide pertinent feedback to managers or designees. Keep the surgical area clean and organized for the scrub and physician; remove instruments and sponges as they are used. Assist in room turnover to ensure the surgical room is sterile and safe; help maintain unit goals for better room utilization. Maintain environment and supply inventory, procure necessary supplies and equipment, and alert administration of needs promptly. Prepare the patient for the procedure, educate the patient pre‑operatively, and participate in handoff during transitions. Help ensure OR metrics by process improvement, developing work processes, and providing solutions and action plans to meet departmental goals. Assess the patient’s condition before surgery and collaborate with a physician to develop the care plan. Assume other related responsibilities as required and assigned. Education
Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited program is required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred. Experience
Three years of previous experience in an acute OR setting, with at least 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the Orthopedic specialty area, is preferred. Requirements
A current, valid RN license in the state of practice or equivalent as per state regulations. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtained within 90 days of hire. Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or obtained within 90 days of hire. Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or obtained within 90 days of hire. Knowledge
Demonstrate current competencies for the job position. Know the necessary clinical decision‑making skills for patient age and context. Understand disease processes and perioperative care. Familiarity with hospital organization, universal precautions, and safety maintenance. Skills
Validate/certify competencies for perioperative duties and maintain annual skill requirements. Excellent interpersonal skills, including professional verbal and written communication and active listening. Deliver high‑quality customer service to patients, physicians, visitors, and colleagues, fostering a positive work environment. Abilities
Strong attention to detail and physical stamina for long, arduous shifts. Ability to manage high‑stress, mentally fatiguing environments and maintain a flexible schedule. Multitask and prioritize support activities for teammates. Environmental Working Conditions
Normal and emergent clinical environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, blood and body fluids, infectious disease, and chemical or electrical hazards. Physical/Mental Demands
