Job Description

Delivers extraordinary experience to each patient and provides a complete understanding of customized recommendations for products and services.

Custom fits glasses and precisely places the prescription in lenses.

Develops a personal client base through outstanding service and referrals.

Assists co‑workers with difficult or complex product needs and prescriptions.

Keeps current on company/industry products, procedures, manufacturer rebates, and lens/model availability.

Takes and returns patient calls, updates patients on order status, and resolves order issues, escalating to the Store Manager as necessary.

Retrieves patient charts and electronic health records.

Assists patients in selecting frames, lens types, and treatments (tints, coatings, etc.) based on specific needs and measurements.

Educates patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care.

Collects eye and facial measurements to ensure a proper fit.

Interprets prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists.

Creates work orders for lab technicians with detailed specifications.

Follows up on all pending orders, verifies timelines, informs patients of status, and notifies them when orders arrive.

Dispenses glasses by inspecting the product, checking fit, adjusting as needed, and soliciting feedback.

Adjusts eyewear to ensure visual acuity, proper fit, and patient comfort using tools such as pupilometers, lensometers, and other equipment.

Is proficient in using tools such as pupilometers, PD sticks, lensometers, pliers, wrenches, frame warmers, etc.

Communicates regularly with technicians, store managers, and optometrists, providing additional patient information or order status.

Inspects the final product for flaws, cleans, and polishes lenses using cloths and solvents.

Keeps frame boards, displays, mirrors, workbench, office area, bathroom, and breakroom clean and organized, maintaining overall store appearance.

Restocks retail boards with new merchandise.

Understands product issues, analyzes problems, and accurately answers patients’ questions regarding insurance, warranty, pricing, promotions, etc.

Collaborates with technicians, front‑desk associates, managers, and optometrists.

Sells miscellaneous products such as cleaners, contact lens supplies, sunglasses, safety glasses, etc.

Requirements / Qualifications

High School Diploma.

State Licensure.

Optical dispensing experience.

Minimum of one year’s experience as an optician strongly preferred.

Experience with HIPAA requirements preferred.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent customer service skills and a pleasant demeanor; sales experience preferred.

Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.

Dependability and punctuality.

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend, kneel, and stand up to 8 hours a day.
