Accountant III – Health Insurance Billing Specialist

Annual Salary: $39,304.94 plus Competitive Area Differential (CAD) of $644.80, Paid Bi-Weekly

Position Description Under the general supervision of the Billing Department Supervisor, the incumbent performs duties involving applications of accounting skills, billing activities and coordination of other fiscal related matters. Performs billing functions in the Health Information System and other Accounts Receivable billing software systems.
Perform third party claims processing and collection activities for all payors of the State Veterans’ Homes.
Perform daily account receivables functions to maintain billing.
Process monthly billing for all Medicare A&B, Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care, Third Party Insurers, and other payers.
Review and monitor resident accounts ensuring account set up and payer types are correctly established.
Verify insurance eligibility.
Review and monitor accounts daily to facilitate timely collections.
Maintain detailed activity notes in each resident’s account.
Resolve and collect on all accounts in ageing reports for all payers.
Maintain a clean claim billing average within timely filing guidelines.
Compile and prepare reports to verify the accuracy of monies collected and deposited.
Provide cross‑coverage within the Billing Department as needed.
File inquiries including reconsiderations, appeals, patient liability, eligibility, and clerical re‑openings.
Monitor all payment allocations and reconciliations in the Health Information System.
Maintain positive working relationships with staff in assigned Homes.
Provide ongoing feedback to the Billing Department Manager for process improvement.
Perform other related duties as directed by the Health Operations Manager and Billing Department Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in accounts receivables and collections.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Basic knowledge or experience in healthcare billable services.
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Effective communication in English: reading, writing, speaking, and understanding.
Successful completion of Level II Background Screening and due diligence process.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with Basic Accounting Functions and Generally Accepted Accounting Practices.
Experience in State of Florida Accounting Systems.
Experience in Nursing Home Health Insurance Billing.
