Senior Paralegal. Time Type: Full time. Location: Local. Travel: Up to 10%. DOJ MBI clearance required. Regular employee type. This position involves working with the USAO in both Criminal and Civil Units on litigation support tasks from document preparation and filing to redaction, privilege protection, factual and legal research, witness interviews, depositions, and trial preparation. Provides a variety of legal assistance and technical work requiring specialized knowledge of processes, procedures, and practices to support legal activities, including preparing, processing, storing, and retrieving legal actions and information pertaining to AUSAs.

Provides litigative case management and annotates deficiencies in case materials (e.g., missing documents, conflicting statements) and requests further investigation as needed.

Acts as contact person for assigned cases and provides information and assistance concerning case status or relevant procedural issues.

Compiles, organizes, and indexes discovery and evidence exhibits for trial and witness testimony; works closely with assigned attorney(s) to ensure material is efficiently arranged.

Provides technical assistance to attorneys with e-discovery platforms and document review systems.

Produces and provides to the attorney the appropriate legal documents, information, exhibits, or witnesses at the appropriate time during court proceedings.

Prepares and coordinates exhibits for trial, including charts, diagrams, photographs, and models; may prepare trial exhibits personally or coordinate with others to ensure timely production.

Maintains accounting systems for materials to be used as exhibits in grand jury proceedings and trials; prepares lists and tables to correlate exhibits with transcripts; tracks exhibits used in proceedings.

Provides automated litigation support to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations; assists in court by using software to enlarge charts and photographs, duplicate tapes/videos, and annotate exhibit lists during testimony.

Performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the AUSAs, including automation support; uses established databases for data searches and report design.

Opens, maintains, and closes case files; notifies proper client agencies of service and obtains litigation information as needed.

Establishes and updates databases to track case receipt, deadlines, and status; informs attorneys and staff of case progress.

Monitors pending cases and initiates actions to meet deadlines.

Maintains filing systems, ensures easy retrieval of case materials, and closes case files in a timely manner; purges unnecessary documents and forwards files to archives.

Prepares a variety of legal documents and correspondence from templates (e.g., subpoenas, liens, writs, notices) and submits for AUSA review prior to filing/issuance.

Maintains AUSAs and court calendars, schedules court reporters, witnesses, and conferences as required.

Answers routine inquiries not requiring legal interpretation; refers more complex questions to appropriate office personnel.

Qualifications

Paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study, or equivalent legal training/education.

At least two years of litigation paralegal or related project experience.

At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.

Solid knowledge of the federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and research resources.

Excellent written and oral communication skills; familiarity with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.

Strong computer skills including word processing, databases (e.g., document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware; familiarity with ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures.

Ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure.

DOJ MBI eligibility (US Citizenship required).

Pay Range:

This posting is for a position covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). Compensation meets or exceeds the minimum wage determined by the Department of Labor for the work location.

Minimum Required Hourly Wage:
