Job Title Remote Chef Manager

Job Description The Remote Chef Manager is responsible for the overall performance management of the assigned area and/or camp. The role includes hands‑on preparation and oversight of all food service. Additional responsibilities of equal importance are the management of a camp staff, including kitchen, housekeeping, janitor/expeditor, and maintenance personnel. Procurement, inventory, and budget are integral to the role. All duties are performed in accordance with NMS' mission, vision, and values, as well as departmental policies, practices, and procedures.

This position will support the Endicott Camp on the North Slope. It is a 2‑week on & 2‑week off rotational schedule. The point of hire is Anchorage, AK.

Responsibilities

Function as a primary resource for NMS food service, housekeeping, and maintenance employees.

Deliver and track performance to meet key performance indicators.

Coach and develop employees.

Advance all elements of NMS performance‑excellence strategy within the context of continuous improvement.

Facilitate and support a "One Team" relationship dynamic within the NMS organization.

Direct and coordinate the delivery of assigned services. Develop and implement comprehensive business plans for assigned activities.

Establish and implement an organized supervision system and formal operating procedures.

Ensure all assigned activities comply with sound business practices, internal and external business requirements, and regulatory requirements.

Meet with clients/customers to maintain relationships, market products, resolve problems, and keep open all forms of communication.

Lead and motivate staff through clear communication.

Ensure responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities of all employees are defined and understood.

Develop and manage operating budget, approving expenditures and establishing cost and manpower templates for catering contracts and bid proposals.

Support an active and comprehensive safety and CI program.

Demonstrate strong skills in structuring activities, teamwork, communication, operational efficiencies, decision‑making, and problem‑solving.

Notify supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not met.

Supervise staff.

Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success may be assigned.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by formal training or equivalent experience.

Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Culinary Arts or recognition from a national association or formal certified training program.

At least seven (7) years of management experience in hospitality, food service, housekeeping, hotel, or remote camp environments.

A valid driver’s license and clean driving record for the past three (3) years, eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.

Ability to instruct and train others and handle multiple concurrent tasks.

Must obtain an Alaska Food Workers Card and/or ServSafe Certification upon hire.

Must pass all pre‑employment contract requirements, including drug test, physical evaluation, fitness for duty assessment, and hearing test. Applicants not near a testing facility must cover travel expenses.

Cooperate and work as part of a team with employees, customers, and clients.

Make decisions independently with minimal supervision.

Be on feet for 12 hours per shift during scheduled rotation.

Live in dormitory‑style settings and maintain cleanliness for the remote camp.

Speak, understand, read, and write English.

Meet all safety guidelines and regulations set by the company and client.

Candidates Residing Outside Anchorage Area Candidates residing in Alaska and the Lower 48 for any contract: For pre‑employment testing, Anchorage will be considered the point of hire (except drug testing, conducted near the candidate’s residence). Employees responsible for travel expenses and accommodations related to pre‑employment tasks in Anchorage, AK, including safety training, physical, DOT, fit‑for‑duty, audiogram, and other required testing.

Candidates in Alaska for the Alyeska contract: Pre‑employment testing will be scheduled near the candidate’s residence within the state, unless the region lacks necessary providers.

Flights to Remote Locations: Employees responsible for expenses related to reporting to Anchorage, AK for scheduled trips paid by the company for remote locations.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Weather: Indoor/Outdoor. Frequently exposed to arctic conditions.

Noise level: Moderate to Loud.

Description of environment: This is an industrial kitchen setting located in a remote camp.

Must constantly stand, walk, climb, push, pull, use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

Travel: Must be able to travel by plane and/or bus to remote camps.

Physical requirements: Fit for Duty Test

Lift 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle × 2

Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist × 2

Lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders × 2

Lift 30 lbs. from floor to crown × 2

Carry 20 lbs. with two hands for a minimum distance of 20 feet

Push horizontally with a peak force of 50 f‑lbs. with two hands.

Stoop & Twist: Alternate cross‑over toe touches × 5 each side, self‑paced, continuous.

Squat Test: Functionally squat × 5, self‑paced but continuous.

Kneel: Alternate kneeling sequence × 5 per knee, self‑paced but continuous.

Stairs: Climb up and down 10 steps × 4 for a total of 40 steps, self‑paced but continuous.

Stairs & Carry: Climb 10 steps × 2 while carrying 30 lbs. in one hand, use railing for safety, self‑paced.

Allow a 30‑second rest period after climbing 10 steps while carrying.
