Summary The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist assists physicians in performing minimally invasive procedures using advanced imaging technology. The role involves preparing patients and equipment, operating fluoroscopic and other imaging modalities, and ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety. The IR Technologist works closely with the interventional radiologist and the healthcare team to support complex vascular and non‑vascular procedures in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment.

Required Qualifications

One year of recent experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist

Valid ARRT, or RCIS/RCES certification in compliance with state regulations

Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)

Preferred Qualifications

Current ACLS certification (AHA/ARC)

Valid Radiologic Technologist license in compliance with state regulations

PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPC certification

Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position

Essential Work Functions

Prepare and position patients for interventional radiology procedures, ensuring comfort and safety.

Operate imaging equipment, including fluoroscopy, CT, and ultrasound, to guide procedures.

Assist physicians by scrubbing in for sterile procedures, passing instruments, and maintaining a sterile field.

Monitor and document patient vital signs and procedural details.

Administer contrast media and monitor for adverse reactions.

Ensure proper radiation safety measures for patients, staff, and self.

Maintain and troubleshoot imaging equipment, ensuring readiness for procedures.

Manage and restock procedural supplies, including catheters, guidewires, and contrast agents.

Collaborate with radiologists, nurses, and other team members to provide seamless patient care.

Follow all infection control, safety, and regulatory protocols.

Provide patient education before, during, and after procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned to support IR lab operations.

Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards.

Required Essential Skills

Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills.

Proficient reading, writing and verbal communication in English.

Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills.

Physical abilities – must be able to remain in a stationary position, move equipment (50–100 lbs), push, pull, and bend.

Interpersonal skills – must work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) presenting a positive attitude and professionalism.

Technical/motor skills – proficiency in fine manipulation, push/pull and movement while assisting with procedures and equipment.

Mental requirements – cope with frequent contact with the public and customers; meet deadlines under pressure; work under close or independent supervision; manage irregular activity schedules and continuous concentration on detail.

Sensory – visual acuity and effective communication.
