Job Overview The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is tasked with the oversight of communities within Illinois to achieve and maintain optimal health and safety. With an annual budget of $600 million in state and federal funds, 8 regional offices, 3 laboratories, and over 1,100 employees, IDPH is equipped to fulfill its mission of protecting the health and wellness of the people of Illinois through prevention, health promotion, regulation, and control of disease and injury. The IDPH is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform professional architectural duties involving the execution of assignments of extensive scope and complexity involving code analysis and review of new health‑care construction project documents prepared by registered architects, inspection of new health‑care construction projects, and existing health‑care facilities for compliance with all applicable licensure and federal certification codes.

Essential Functions
Performs professional architectural duties involving responsibilities for the execution of assignments of extensive scope and complexity involving the code analysis and review of new healthcare construction project documents prepared by registered architects, inspection of new healthcare construction projects, and existing healthcare facilities for compliance with all applicable licensure and federal certification codes.
Conducts on‑site monitoring inspections of healthcare facilities to assure compliance with federal requirements for plans of correction and licensure compliance for plans of correction.
Reviews, evaluates, and composes comments relating to architectural design development and working drawings, specifications, contract documents including change orders for compliance with federal and state healthcare facility program requirements for fire safety codes and licensure requirements for healthcare facilities.
Performs other duties as required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in architecture or architectural studies.
Requires two (2) years of professional experience in architecture.
Preferred Qualifications
One (1) year experience conducting on‑site architectural inspections by evaluating and determining compliance of new construction at various stages.
One (1) year experience completing required inspection forms.
One (1) year experience reviewing, evaluating and composing comments relating to architectural design development.
Thorough knowledge of building codes and life safety codes.
Ability to read and interpret codes and standards.
Working knowledge of basic engineering principles.
Thorough knowledge of architectural principles and practices.
Possession of excellent computer skills.
Conditions of Employment
Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties.
Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
Requires the physical ability to climb stairs and ladders, and inspect physical environment and life safety systems to include construction sites.
