License Requirements:
Must have an active Physical Therapist license issued by the Virginia Board of Physical Therapy and must maintain the license while employed.
Job Summary Licensed Physical Therapist to provide inpatient services in a 110‑bed state psychiatric hospital. The role involves in‑house PT consultations, treatment planning, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to support patients with major mental health diagnoses.
Responsibilities
Collect inpatient PT consultations and complete evaluations within 5 working days
Develop and implement treatment plans within 3 days of evaluation
Provide PT programming, evaluations, and treatments for adult and geriatric patients (civil and forensic)
Collaborate with OT and other therapy disciplines to facilitate functional patient outcomes
Document assessment, treatment, and progress in the electronic health record (Cerner or equivalent) with at least 95% compliance
Provide patient and family education and coordinate PT‐related educational sessions
Maintain a safe, hazard‑free therapeutic environment and report incidents as required
Coordinate with the PSR director, physicians, nursing and other treatment teams to communicate changes and recommendations
Participate in interdisciplinary notes and event reporting (e.g., Pink hospital event form)
Adhere to attendance, punctuality, and safety policies
Promote productive interpersonal relationships and effective communication throughout the care team
Qualifications
Licensed Physical Therapist in Virginia
Experience in an inpatient setting preferred, especially within psychiatric or forensic units
Comfortable working with patients with major mental health diagnoses
Strong assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation skills for PT programs
Ability to collaborate within interdisciplinary teams and communicate effectively
Additional Considerations
Previous experience in a psychiatric facility is advantageous
