About the Team The team is part of the Print Operations Business at Dow Jones.
About the Role The Assistant Press/Mail Foreman is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the daily operations of both the pressroom and the mailroom (packaging/distribution). This position ensures that the newspaper is printed to high quality standards and prepared for timely delivery, all while managing a crew of operators and technicians. You will be based at our LaGrange, Georgia plant reporting to the Foreman/Woman.
You Will Production Management
Supervise the setup, operation, and maintenance of high-speed web offset presses.
Oversee mailroom equipment, including inserters, stackers, strappers, and labeling systems.
Monitor print quality (color registration, ink density, and cut-off) throughout the run.
Coordinate production schedules to meet deadlines for multiple editions or commercial products.
Leadership & Personnel
Direct and train press and mailroom staff on equipment operation and safety protocols.
Assist the Foreman/Woman in scheduling shifts, job setup, writing reports, administrative work, and managing labor costs.
Enforce company policies and maintain a professional, productive work environment.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Perform and document preventative maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems.
Diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions quickly to minimize downtime.
Maintain an inventory of supplies such as ink, paper (newsprint), plates, and spare parts.
Be responsible for Safety & Compliance protocols and practices for the plant.
Ensure all operations comply with OSHA standards and environmental regulations.
Promote a "safety-first" culture, ensuring proper use of PPE and lockout/tagout procedures.
You Have
Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in a web offset printing environment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or "lead" capacity.
Technical Skills: Deep understanding of four-color process printing and mailroom packaging operation.
Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, change on a loud, industrial environment, including stair climbing.
Flexibility: Must work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet publication cycles.
Additional duties may be assigned from time to time, stepping in wherever and whenever needed.
