Victim Advocate – District Attorney's Office
Multnomah County is seeking Victim Advocates to join our team of dedicated professionals. The District Attorney’s Office is a leader in innovative specialty court programs and is committed to full implementation of Victim’s Rights as embodied in Oregon law. Victim Advocates will ensure crime victims are informed, supported, and protected throughout the criminal and juvenile justice system.

Schedule:
Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm or 8:30 am–5:00 pm; 8:00 am–5:00 pm with an hour‑long lunch is also an option.
Essential Functions Advocacy and Preparation
Provide orientation to the criminal justice system, investigation process, and post‑conviction systems.
Prepare and accompany victims to court hearings, law‑enforcement interviews, and related meetings; explain complex processes in a trauma‑informed manner.
Assist victims with logistical issues such as transportation, interpreter services, and childcare.
Help with applications for Crime Victims’ Compensation and the Address Confidentiality Program; provide referrals to other resources and assistance with restitution.
Assist victims/survivors in reporting new and historic crimes to law enforcement and documenting injuries.
Provide crisis intervention and conduct safety‑planning; work with victims/survivors on protective orders, pre‑trial release, and probation supports.
Crime Victim Notifications
Notify victims promptly of their rights; explain how to request specific rights and document rights asserted.
Keep victims updated on case status and monitor cases for qualifying actions or hearings.
Communicate with the prosecutor and all relevant parties about victim participation, needs, accommodations, and statements to the court.
Provide information about victim impact statements and other opportunities to address the court.
Maintain accurate and current contact information for victims, including alternate contacts.
Community Engagement, Trainings and Reporting
Assist in designing and delivering training, community outreach, and education for internal and external partners.
Participate in volunteer training and ongoing volunteer meetings.
Provide feedback and attend victim services meetings/work groups; contribute to system improvements.
Complete required training including State Victim Assistance Academy, Crime Victims’ Compensation Program, Address Confidentiality Program, and Sexual Assault Victim Advocacy trainings.
Update computerized case tracking system; maintain records and accurate case notes.
Submit memoranda of activities and statistics for grant reports or court hearings as requested.
Qualifications Required Minimum Qualifications / Transferable Skills
Associate degree in social work, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or a related field.
1 to 4 years of experience performing duties of this position (equivalent to 3–6 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
Ability to work with people in crisis and understand trauma, abuse, and vicarious trauma.
Experience handling highly confidential information.
Strong organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
Team collaboration and ability to support coworkers.
Flexibility and ability to work under pressure.
Commitment to a culture of respect, inclusiveness, and appreciation of diverse perspectives.
Preferred Special Qualifications / Transferable Skills
Advanced understanding of cultures, customs, and social experiences of marginalized communities.
Bilingual skill in Spanish preferred.
Knowledge of agencies supporting victims/survivors.
Direct experience providing services to victims of crime and/or knowledge of victim advocacy, criminal justice procedures, or victim rights under Oregon law.
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field.
Transferable skills: describe any relevant skills gained through education, work, military, or life experience.
Other Requirements
Must successfully pass a thorough criminal background check and a post‑offer urine drug screen.
Must sign a disclosure statement regarding arrests and convictions of immediate family members and close relations.

Pay Equity In accordance with the Pay Equity Law passed in 2017, a pay equity analysis will be conducted to determine the pay step offered. New county service hires are likely offered compensation in the lower to mid‑level of the salary range.
