DB2 DBA – REMOTE
— ARC Group has an immediate opportunity for a Senior DB2 DBA. This position is 100% remote. This is starting out as a contract position running through July 2026 with strong potential to extend longer or possibly convert to FTE. Responsibilities
Provide 24 x 7 support to critical production systems.
Work closely with application development teams to resolve performance-related issues and provide application support.
Create databases, migrate database objects from non-production to production environment.
Design and build data models, schemas, views, and tables to support application requirements.
Manage and operate DB2 tools, JCL, Perf monitoring (Omegamon) and Query monitor for Z/OS DB2.
Perform routine maintenance on multiple database environments including updates, patches, and hotfixes for LUW servers.
Measure database performance and troubleshoot complex database issues, including I/O bottlenecks and SQL tuning.
Plan and implement backup and recovery concepts and procedures.
Collaborate with security teams on database security, data encryption, obfuscation, and auditing using tools such as Guardium.
Work with automation tools (e.g., Control-M) and scripting languages (shell, Python, or Perl) to automate DBA tasks.
Assist with capacity planning and architecture design for database server deployment.
Maintain knowledge of IT industry database technologies and processes and business applications integrated with database technologies.
Qualifications
Required (must have):
10 or more years’ professional experience as an application z/OS DB2 DBA on V11+
8 or more years LUW DB2 experience including installation, support, configuration, and upgrading DB2 LUW subsystems
Additional Requirements:
In-depth knowledge of the DB2 z/OS architecture
Experience with Netezza Performance Server database administration
Experience with DB2 Purescale environment
Experience working with IBM on opening cases and working with them
Experience configuring and supporting Tier-1 mission-critical databases as an application z/OS DBA and LUW systems/infrastructure DBA
Good knowledge of capacity planning and architecture design for database server deployment
Proven experience in a mission-critical multi-terabyte database platform with analytics workloads
Understanding of data warehouse concepts including data marts, data lakehouse, and data lakes
Routine maintenance tasks including updates, patches, and hotfixes for LUW servers
Experience in development of data models, schemas, views, and tables for application requirements
Security-focused experience including data encryption, auditing, and related controls
Experience in backup and recovery concepts and procedures
Experience in performance measurement and SQL tuning
Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Nimsoft, Dynatrace, Datadog or comparable solutions
Understanding of licensing options and optimization
Experience with scripting for automating DBA tasks
Experience with IT industry database technologies and processes
Willingness to provide on-call support as needed
Familiarity with working with application development teams
Education
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience
