Position Overview The Associate Scientist will be part of the Pilot Plant, responsible for scale‑up and execution of upstream and downstream processes within Biologics Development's program portfolio. The role works closely with Process Development and manufacturing teams, delivering robust, scalable, and economical processes for clinical and commercial supply. The position reports to the Manager of the Pilot Plant and will be based in Devens, MA.

Key Responsibilities

Execute non‑GMP Pilot Scale Lab Operations in accordance with established work instructions and SOPs.

Adhere to safety during execution and maintain a safe work environment.

Operations may include (but are not limited to) wave and bioreactor setup and execution, chromatography and filtration setup and execution, sample submission, media/buffer preparation, and run monitoring/troubleshooting.

Prepare and review technical documents, including campaign summary reports, batch records, and SOPs.

Introduce, evaluate, and implement innovative new process technologies.

Participate in cross‑functional teams to support process investigations, process development, scale‑up, and tech transfer to clinical and commercial manufacturing.

Track performance of Scale‑up data against bench‑scale to aid Process Development teams in the development of scale‑down models.

Support digital and automation initiatives within the department.

Qualifications

B.S. in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related biologics fields.

1‑3 years of industry experience in Process Development, Pilot Operations, GMP manufacturing or related field.

Strong knowledge of downstream process development and unit operations, including chromatography and filtration (preferred).

Strong knowledge of upstream process development and unit operations, including cell culture, mammalian bioreactors, and harvest (plus).

Prior experience with single‑use manufacturing and automation (plus). Working knowledge of cGMP (plus).

Knowledge of automation, statistics, design of experiment, and data analysis (plus).

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Compensation Overview Devens, MA – US: $89,330 – $108,243 for a full‑time employee. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available. Final compensation is based on demonstrated experience and qualifications.
