The University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank Campus is looking for a savvy Nursing Station Technician to join our team of talented healthcare providers! The University of Minnesota Medical Center represents an integrated academic health care system and is comprised of two hospitals and dozens of adult specialty clinics on both the East and West banks of the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis. About the Job The Nursing Station Technician is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

Responsibilities The NST on the Neuroscience unit provides care to adult patients with complex medical conditions which require close observation, monitoring, and interventions, including but not limited to neurological, neurosurgical, ENT, and trauma patients. Our team provides advanced monitoring using current technology, manages complex medication and infusion therapies, and cares for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/interventions on the unit. This position is a .8FTE (working 64 hours per 2 week pay period) on the overnight shifts (11PM-7:30AM). These are 8 hour shifts.

Job Duties

Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding.

Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests.

Setting up and maintaining patient rooms.

Ordering and stocking of supplies.

Minimum Qualifications

Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician).

Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.

Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (Note: Individuals who have completed a Nursing Assistant program and are scheduled to take the NA Registry exam will be granted 90 days post hire to become active).

Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.

Candidates must possess exceptional communication skills, knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, and hospital procedures, and strong computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience.
