Located in Amherst, NY, Hampton Inn Buffalo‑Amherst is strategically positioned between the Amherst Recreation Complex and the University at Buffalo North Campus. The hotel is the first in the nation certified for Universal Design, an emerging standard for socially responsible design.
Job Summary The Sales Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth through the implementation of sales strategies. The primary focus is to attract new business opportunities, maintain existing client relationships, and maximize revenue across all revenue streams.
Required scheduling:
Morning availability. Flexibility with scheduling is essential to meet hotel operations.
Essential Functions
Business Development and Prospecting (60%)
Generates new business leads through active prospecting, networking, and market research.
Conducts regular market visits, participates in industry events, and builds relationships with potential clients and corporate partners.
Maintains understanding and awareness of profitability of group prospects.
Updates leads regularly and moves leads through the sales process at a steady pace.
Account Management (25%)
Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with clients through personal calls, promotions and entertainment (on and off property).
Negotiates and finalizes sales agreements, contracts, and pricing to ensure mutually beneficial partnerships.
Makes sales calls and presentations to key accounts in feeder cities and Local Negotiated Rate accounts.
Documents information pertaining to all client meetings and conversations.
Sales Strategy and Planning (15%)
Develops and implements comprehensive sales strategies and action plans to achieve booking goals and maximize market potential.
Analyzes market trends, competitors, and customer needs to identify business opportunities, expand current business base, and gain a competitive advantage.
Monitors performance against objectives and makes necessary adjustments to ensure consistent achievement of goals.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Works collaboratively with other departments to ensure seamless execution of sales initiatives and to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
Ensures all customer interactions and sales processes adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and customer service excellence.
Strives to meet or exceed department company goals and objectives.
Attempts to communicate with guests in guests’ native language, if applicable.
Reports maintenance deficiencies, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries.
Follows Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and reports any defective, damaged, or lost PPE.
Follows all safety procedures and can recognize and act in emergency situations.
Education and Experience
High School Degree or equivalent required.
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) preferred.
5 years of progressive management experience in a 4‑star hotel or resort preferred.
5 years of experience at the executive level is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Experience with Delphi FDC Sales System preferred.
Experience with social and wedding market preferred.
Experience working with Hilton brands is a plus.
Ability to read, write, listen, and communicate effectively in English.
Demonstrated ability to interact with guests, employees, and third parties that reflects highly on the hotel, brand, and company.
Ability to present information and respond to questions from management, clients, customers, and the general public.
Strong selling and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and ability to use hotel software systems.
Ability to operate in a 7‑day per week, 24‑hour per day business setting.
Mathematical competence for calculations required.
Problem‑solving skills with limited standardization.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Constant talking, hearing, tasting and smelling.
Constant near and far vision.
Constant speaking and listening required.
Frequent sitting.
Frequent exposure to moderate noise levels.
Occasional standing and walking.
Occasional reaching and grasping, handling and feeling with hands and arms.
