Base Pay Range $27.31/hr – $40.96/hr
Primary Function ChristianaCare is seeking a full‑time Senior Coder to accurately assign ICD‑10 CM/PCS, HCPCS/CPT codes, payment group classification, and data abstraction for reimbursement purposes. This role supports coding services across Inpatient, Outpatient, Emergency Medicine, Ancillary, and Diagnostic records.
Responsibilities
Review and interpret medical records to assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes.
Perform coding and abstracting tasks to support data quality and statistical reporting.
Use diagnostic reports to accurately code patient charts.
Work within service line structures based on patient type.
Abstract relevant data, determine, and sequence codes for diagnoses and procedures.
Communicate with management and initiate queries using the HIMS Coding DNFB tagging procedures.
Provide coded and abstracted information required for billing within efficiency expectations.
Review pre‑populated patient demographics from HL7 feeds and adjust coded data as needed.
Calculate inpatient encounters using MS‑DRG and APR‑DRG groupers for accurate reporting.
Sequence CPT codes using APC grouper methodology to produce correct CPT hierarchies.
Submit timely, accurate, and concise daily productivity reports.
Report errors in patient identification, account or encounter information and documentation discrepancies.
Education and Experience Requirements
College degree in Health Information Management or completion of an AHIMA‑approved certificate program.
At least one year of coding experience in acute care setting (Inpatient, Observation, Emergency Medicine, or Same‑Day Surgery).
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Technology preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
