Patient Access Associate (PRN) - Willowbrook Come lead with us at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. At Houston Methodist, the Patient Access Associate position is responsible for obtaining and entering accurate demographic and insurance information in the electronic health record (EHR) on patients presenting at the various entry points of the facility. This position performs cashiering functions, ensuring that all hospital accounts are secure through the collection of the required copay, deductibles, and coinsurance. It also performs the medical necessity check to ensure compliance with Medicare guidelines. The role requires effective communication skills, promotes excellent customer service in every interaction, and adheres to all departmental, hospital, governmental, and healthcare licensing agency requirements related to EMTALA and HIPAA.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent education

Two years of experience in a strong customer‑service environment

One year of registration experience in a hospital environment preferred

Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to safely perform assigned job duties

Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English

Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co‑workers

Multitasking and flexibility to meet patient and department requirements

Knowledge of basic registration/access functions and insurance procedures

Problem‑solving and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations

Excellent customer service and professional communication skills

Proficient computer skills and ability to learn multiple software programs

Attention to detail and accurate, rapid work

Essential Functions

Obtains and records accurate demographic and insurance information on patients by interviewing patients, family members, and physicians.

Ensures correct insurance plan codes for billing.

Explains consent forms and obtains signatures.

Contributes to patient experience, proactively seeking solutions to patient issues.

Protects HIPAA confidentiality of patient information.

Meets departmental goals for registration error rate and productivity.

Balances cash drawer daily and follows cash receipt policies.

Performs medical necessity verification and offers payment options.

Improves processes for efficient patient flow and continuous development.

Work Attire, On‑Call, Travel

Uniform required; business professional acceptable.

On‑call: No required except emergencies.

Travel within or outside Houston Metropolitan area: No.
