Akron General’s Bath Health and Wellness Center offers a wide range of surgical services. Whether patients require minimally invasive procedures or major surgeries, the surgical team is dedicated to providing excellent care in a safe, family‑friendly environment.
Shift Caregiver days Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Responsibilities
Assist with critical procedures and tasks related to specific training, score, and orientation.
Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other team members regarding the surgical procedure.
Apply knowledge of OR procedures with respect to attire, infection control, and compliance practices.
Prepare for the procedure by participating in safety check/universal protocol, reviewing permits, assisting in moving and positioning the patient, selecting x‑rays, inserting and removing Foley cannula, and draping the patient.
Support the surgeon during the procedure by retracting tissues, maintaining hemostasis, using appropriate instrumentation, placing ties or ligatures, applying chemical hemostatic agents, and using electrocautery.
Maintain sterile field integrity, close all wound layers, insert drainage tubes, apply wound dressing, and assist with resuscitation or any other events in the OR.
Perform any other duties or procedures incident to the surgical procedure deemed necessary, directed, and supervised by the surgeon.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree.
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Assistant program.
Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) offered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) within the first year of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
Two years of peri‑operative practice in an acute care facility.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
Physical Requirements
Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients.
Standing and walking for extended periods.
Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Ability to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Ability to safely transport patients on stretchers to bed using good body mechanics.
Works extended hours as necessary.
Personal Protective Equipment
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range Minimum hourly: $27.65 Maximum hourly: $42.17
