Responsibilities
Greets and takes food and drink orders from restaurant customers, serving orders and accommodating special needs or requests.
Remains attentive throughout the entire dining experience, adhering to or exceeding service standards as established by the restaurant.
Completes all restocking and cleaning duties by performing opening and closing sidework as instructed.
Memorizes menu items, recipes, and daily specials to answer questions and make recommendations to customers.
Maintains cleanliness standards in the restaurant, wait station, and kitchen service area, ensuring a clean, presentable, and attractive facility that satisfies state and local health board requirements.
Controls allocated guest checks by following established check‑use procedures and documenting all required information legibly.
Receives proper payment from guests and ensures accuracy of checks and payment methods to safeguard the customer and company.
Attends all pre‑meal and departmental meetings in person to enhance communication and gain knowledge of products, service, and facility.
Responds to customer inquiries and comments in person and on the phone by providing timely and knowledgeable information.
Presents a clean and professional appearance at all times.
Maintains a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor at all times.
Performs other duties as assigned, requested, or deemed necessary by management.
Education / Formal Training High school education or equivalent.
Experience Previous experience in a similar position of 3 months or longer.
Knowledge / Skills
Basic knowledge of customer service principles, the food server function, and restaurant and kitchen operations.
Knowledge of standard cash‑handling procedures.
Fluency in oral and written English.
Vision ability to clearly see detailed guest checks, computer print‑outs, written instructions, and to observe the entire restaurant in dimly lit conditions.
Manual coordination to punch buttons, grasp items in hand, and to balance and carry trays loaded with food and beverages.
Physical Demands
Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs to include serving trays, carts, tables, chairs, and small equipment up to 75% of the time.
Balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, and finger throughout the shift.
Full range of mobility and the ability to travel up to 300 feet on a regular basis throughout the shift.
Continuous standing during preparation, service hours, or expediting.
Moderate hearing to hear customers, supervisors, and communicate with other staff.
Excellent vision to see that products are prepared appropriately.
Moderate comprehension and literacy to read usage records and special requests.
Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow verbal and written instruction, and communicate both verbally and in writing.
Highly organized and able to pay attention to sound and visual details in crowded and noisy settings, especially when handling multiple tasks.
Ability to use tact and understanding when dealing with a variety of customer service problems, including stressful and highly emotional situations.
Environment Physically strenuous – prolonged standing, walking, lifting, and carrying throughout the entire shift in an indoor environment.
