Banquet Manager Come join the award‑winning team at The Nines, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Portland, as a Banquet Manager. The perfect candidate is passionate about service and creating indigenous experiences for each guest or event. The Nines is located in the heart of the city’s center within the historic Meier & Frank Building.

Responsibilities

Solicit, negotiate, and book new and repeat business through outside sales calls, telemarketing, mailings, networking, etc., maximizing space to meet or exceed revenue goals.

Execute a territorial marketing strategy to capture the maximum amount of revenue.

Plan, upsell, and detail the event with the client, including space requirements, times, equipment, menus, themes, and decorations.

Complete contracts, prepare paperwork, coordinate with appropriate areas, and resolve any issues or complaints to ensure quality delivery and customer satisfaction.

Prepare status and period‑end reports.

Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of corporate and restaurant procedures, products, and competition to continually improve sales strategies.

Participate in EO review meetings or restaurant‑led team meetings to provide, share, and receive updates on private dining events.

Communicate professionally and positively with guests and associates.

Work with chefs to ensure menus are appropriate and up to date.

Assist with the planning and execution of restaurant‑level promotions such as beer dinners, wine dinners, and chef classes.

Identify key business contacts in the trade area and nurture these relationships to encourage private event sales.

Perform all other duties as assigned by management.

Education & Training More than two years of post‑high school education.

Experience 1–2 full years in a related position within the hospitality industry.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

General sales techniques knowledge.

Yield management experience.

Excellent customer service skills.

Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.

Basic mathematics, spelling, and reading skills.

Effective business writing skills.

Capability to meet clients on and off premises, tour property, and attend functions.

Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb. and perform occasional bending, kneeling, and pushing.

Strong internal and customer relationships.

Priority setting, planning, and multitasking.

Problem‑solving and sound business decision making.

Responds to coaching, feedback, and training.

Strong and effective sales skills.

Physical Demands

Lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying items up to 50 lb.

Bending and kneeling when necessary.

Variable mobility and standing for 1–4 hours.

Climbing up to 55 steps.

Driving for sales calls (≈ 20 % of time).

Environment 70 % of the day inside the hotel, 30 % outside.

Compensation & Benefits

USD 68,000.00 – USD 71,000.00 per year.
