Job Description and Duties Under the general supervision of the Correctional Lieutenant, the Correctional Sergeant is responsible for supervising Correctional Officers in an assigned major area or on an assigned watch in the safe custody, discipline and welfare of incarcerated people. Effective July 1, 2025, each full‑time employee receives a three percent reduction in pay in exchange for five hours of Personal Leave Program 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027.
Working Conditions The California State Prison – Los Angeles County (LAC) is located in Lancaster, CA, approximately forty‑five minutes north of Valencia and about seventy‑five miles north of downtown Los Angeles.
Minimum Requirements
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable.
Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.
Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge and experience of current CDCR HR practices.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Supervisory or leadership experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgement.
Ability and willingness to delegate responsibilities while ensuring timeliness and quality products.
Ability to work well and stay organized in a fast‑pace, high‑volume environment.
Possession of a positive attitude when working with all levels in the organization.
Demonstrated reliability with a good attendance history and the ability to be punctual.
Statement of Qualifications A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and shall be submitted with your application. The SOQ should be typed in 12‑point professional font, limited to two pages, and written in question‑and‑answer format. Applicants without an SOQ will not be considered.
