Position Summary: Process and test animal specimens for diagnostic purposes using molecular and serologic based assays; organize and analyze data, enter and retrieve information from the Laboratory Information Management System; perform quality control procedures and maintain quality control records; store and dispose of specimens; operate and maintain scientific equipment; communicate with lab staff, veterinarians and clients to provide information and lab results; work with other lab personnel in an environment of problem-solving and process improvement. The position has responsibility for the safety and health of others and, therefore, involves strict attention to detail and protocol. Working hours are between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and may include occasional University holidays on a rotating basis. Responsibilities

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree in a biological science field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in virology and high-volume diagnostic laboratory techniques; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired Qualifications

Molecular diagnostic testing experience in nucleic acid extraction and PCR-based procedures; ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while maintaining a high quality of work; ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and demonstrate a high level of initiative; excellent time-management skills; experience in the use of laboratory information systems and the file management and manipulation of Excel and Word; excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong problem solving and customer service skills, and the ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
