Job Summary The primary purpose of the position is to function in the scrub capacity during a surgical intervention in the birth center under the direct supervision of the registered nurse within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
Primary Duties
Knowledgeable and maintains skill in the handling of instruments and suture material.
Demonstrates by example, the application and rigid control of the principles and practices of aseptic technique.
Setting up and tearing down OR rooms to maintain the timeliness of the OR schedule.
Maintains strict control of needles and sharps. Disposes of them according to procedure.
Prioritizes the work load and facilitates in maintaining stock supplies in a cost effective manner.
Demonstrates knowledge of procedure by anticipating throughout the surgery case any additional supplies, suture and/or equipment that may be needed.
Practice cost containment by opening only needed supplies for a surgical procedure.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
High school graduate, minimum age 18.
Display an attitude of interest and respect for people.
Understand and adhere to policy and regulations.
Flexible schedule required.

Working Conditions
Variable shift rotations that may include, but are not limited to, 8‑hour and 12‑hour shifts covering day, afternoon and night shifts.
Stands for long periods of time.
Breaks and lunches are coordinated with other personnel and workload activity.
Blood and body fluid exposure.
Frequent changes in duties throughout working hours.
Involved with personnel, patients and physicians under all circumstances/conditions, especially high stress situations.
On‑call requirements to meet the needs of the unit.
Annual Requirements Completion of all annual requirements is mandatory every year. These may include:

TB testing
Physical Requirements O = Occasionally 0‑33% of the work shift or 0‑32 repetitions F = Frequently 34‑66% of the work shift or 32‑300 repetitions C = Constantly 67‑100% of the work shift or 200+ repetitions N = Not Present / Not essential job requirement
