Responsibilities
Accurately check patients’ blood sugar and document results as ordered (all values are correctly reported to the attending nurse)
Obtain vital signs appropriately based on patients’ age and condition; report abnormal findings immediately to the attending or charge nurse
Perform patient interventions completely and proficiently within scope of practice and demonstrate age‑specific competency for the population of patients served
Provide appropriate treatment in emergency situations as they arise (e.g., codes, patient falls)
Perform related duties as required
Assume responsibility for meeting the basic needs of all assigned patients
Assist licensed staff and physicians as directed within approved standards; take and record vital signs and I/Os
Perform clerical and public‑relations functions for the unit, coordinate patient services and tests provided by ancillary departments, and act as unit receptionist receiving and directing visitors
Accurately transcribe orders for all assigned patients
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of a CNA course required
Experience:
Previous work experience in a patient care role can meet the education requirement
Licensure/Certification:
CNA – must be certified within 6 months of employment and/or completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited nursing curriculum with the intention to complete a nursing degree required
American Heart Association BLS CPR certification required – must be obtained within 7 days of hire
CPI required within orientation
