Xcel Energy – Distribution Journeyman Lineman Serviceman (Hereford, TX) Summary The person filling this position must be self‑motivated, work well with others, possess a positive attitude, and commit to working safely while providing quality customer service and creating customer satisfaction. In this challenging and rewarding role, the successful candidate must have a well‑rounded knowledge of distribution primary feeders, transformer loading, and fuse practices. The ideal candidate should be thoroughly familiar with company safety regulations and well acquainted with the hazards involved in distribution service work.

This role involves performing a variety of lineman duties that include overhead and underground electric distribution, transmission construction, operations, and maintenance activities. Primary responsibilities consist of but are not limited to:

Installation, maintenance, and removal of overhead and underground distribution conductors and equipment.

Climbing poles, working on energized conductors and equipment, performing hot‑stick work on energized high‑voltage conductors.

Working in inclement weather and handling emergency call‑outs.

Requirements

Must successfully score on the Journeyman Assessment.

Completion of an approved apprentice line program is required, or 5 years of progressive electric lineman experience.

Must have a Class A CDL.

Must be capable of performing all aspects of electric distribution overhead, underground, construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Must be available for emergency call‑outs as per schedule.

Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.

Position may require travel for extended periods.

Must be physically fit, able to lift up to 90 pounds, pass a physical examination, and perform strenuous physical labor under all conditions.

Experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers, and groundwork with utility line crew is required.

A high awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules is required at all times.

Must reside within 20 miles of the Hereford, TX service center.

Selection criteria may include testing and/or assessment.

Must pass the Xcel Energy security and drug screening.

Preferred Requirement Must have a well‑rounded knowledge of distribution primary feeders, transformer loading, and fuse practices—including meter sets and their connections, the use of hot line tools, protective devices, fuses, lightning arresters, disconnect switches, breakers, grounding sets, transformers and their connections, and troubleshooting.
