Summary Responsible for Missions and Christian Education. With input from the Pastor and lay leadership, articulates vision and establishes direction, goals, and priorities for Missions and Christian Education at Oak Street Baptist Church. Reports to the Pastor.

Goal Lead Missions and Education efforts to fulfill the Great Commission to make and teach disciples.

Oak Street Baptist Church is a strongly missions-oriented church. We currently partner with churches planted in Yucatan, Uganda, Poland, and Montreal through mission trips and financial assistance. We have also been blessed to help plant churches in India and Ukraine. We have a history of support for churches within the continental U.S., and are growing in support of Disaster Relief efforts with multiple faith-based DR organizations. We’re seeking a pastor who will lead our missions and adult education divisions to sustain and grow our missions prospectus (local, national, international) and to grow disciples who have a heart for fulfilling the Great Commission and Great Commandment.

Position Responsibilities

Develop and oversee missions strategy following a Great Commission and Acts 1:8 paradigm.

Promote missions and evangelism, create awareness through special events and ongoing ministry.

Plan, promote, and coordinate mission trips and projects; develop ongoing missions prospectus.

With missions ministry team, collaborate with other ministry teams and LIFEtime groups to create a church saturated with a missions outlook.

Develop and lead an effective adult education ministry which includes teaching, outreach, discipleship, worship, ministry, and missions.

Develop, coordinate, and supervise Christian education to inculcate biblical literacy especially during Sunday morning LIFEtime groups and adult ministry teams.

Enlist, equip, encourage, lead, and disciple adult education leaders and volunteers, including selected ministry teams such as Men’s, Women’s, and Family Ministry teams. Excludes Agape Team.

Set goals and evaluate Missions and Education ministry resources, facilities, and volunteer staff.

Communicate with other ministry staff and church family regarding the status, direction, and needs of the Missions and Education ministries.

Coordinate missions and education activities/ministries with other staff/ministries of the church to support the total ministry of Oak Street, including camps, VBS, and other events as needed.

Support the ministry of Open Door Christian School through board membership, chapel devotions, and other opportunities, as needed.

Develop, present, and oversee expenditures of annual Missions and Education budgets.

Be a godly example to our membership and the community.

Adhere to the policies and bylaws of Oak Street Baptist Church.

Full-time staff position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week.

Other duties as assigned by the pastor.

Qualifications

A regenerated and baptized believer in Jesus Christ.

Exhibits spiritual growth and maturity in personal and devotional life.

Displays excellent verbal and communication skills.

Demonstrates competent organizational and planning skills.

Relates well to members of the congregation and community.

A four-year college degree from an accredited college or university is preferred, preferably in a field of theology.

Seminary degree is highly desirable.

A minimum of five to seven years of successful leadership and experience in ministry, including missions and/or education ministry, is preferred.

Ordination is preferred or fitness for consideration toward future ordination.

Physical Demands Position requires periods of standing, walking, lifting over 25 pounds, and strenuous physical activity at times. Position also requires occasional travel and a passport or ability to obtain one.
