The
Shop Technician Apprentice
is responsible for performing jobs involving servicing and repair of all types of mechanical, hydraulic, and diesel-powered equipment. Working both independently and on a team, the technician will receive on‑job training, classroom instruction, and e‑learning to keep skills current. The technician will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions efficiently. They must be committed to safety standards, champion a healthy and safe work environment, and consistently represent Blanchard in a professional manner. Program Structure
Start: March 2026
Duration: Approx. 6 months
Academic learning: 1 week in class, 3 weeks in shop
Outcome: Entry‑level technician role
Contributes to a positive work environment and promotes the vision, mission, and values of BMC.
Completes all job responsibilities in a safe manner, promotes and champions a safe and healthy work environment.
Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs all types of mechanical and hydraulic and diesel‑powered equipment, including diesel engines, transmissions, drive train components, winches, high‑pressure pumps, centrifugal pumps, air compressors, microprocessor controls, electro‑mechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, gearboxes, PTOs, 12/24v electrical systems, equipment cabs and controls, chassis and suspension, A/C systems, etc.
Performs inspections and test equipment for proper operation.
Installs and/or repairs new or reconditioned parts.
Completes paperwork, including parts requisitions/returns, timecards, and service reports.
Utilizes diagnostic equipment and systems to assist in repairs.
Ensures total customer service.
Attends all technical classes and completes all apprenticeship assessments.
Diagnoses and repairs Caterpillar systems in designated field.
Engages in both academic and practical assessments to demonstrate skill development.
Other duties as assigned.
Performance Expectations
Successful completion of technical requirements of the apprenticeship program.
Effective application of learned skills during the program.
Adherence to all program requirements and standards set by Blanchard Machinery.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must pass Blanchard Machinery Criteria Assessment Tool.
Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and proper repair procedures.
Able to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, operating and maintenance service manuals.
Working knowledge of equipment operation and associated operating systems.
Ability to operate lifting devices.
Ability to use diagnostic equipment.
Familiarity with electronic cables, connections, and sensors.
Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, organization and ability to prioritize tasks.
Previous experience on CAT equipment is a plus.
Meets Company Driver Qualifications policy and maintains a valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions
The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside (non‑climate controlled) and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
Required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to injury and/or hazardous materials.
Requires standing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, lifting.
Physical use of a broad variety of tools and machines to maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment.
Must be able to lift varied weight.
Seeing, reading, and writing to complete job responsibilities.
Use of computers and other forms of technology to complete job responsibilities.
