Role Summary Supervises, assigns, coordinates, and evaluates semi‑skilled and skilled trades personnel according to skill, experience, and job knowledge. Trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work, recommends training to enhance productivity, and assists in developing training procedures. Breaks broad strategies into practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to execute them. Responsible for compliance with all technical aspects, including adherence to all drawings and procedures. Manages manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company’s performance. Oversees qualified trades staff while monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts.

Newport News Shipbuilding offers a $5,000 sign‑on bonus to Foreman new hires who meet the qualification criteria. Current NNS employees are also eligible when meeting the requirements.

Must Have

BS/Apprentice OR High School and 6 years related trade experience.

Nice to Have

An Apprentice School X31 Electrician graduate is preferred, with a sound knowledge of the shipyard electrician trade. Should be able to supervise the work of others and communicate effectively in individual and group situations.

The candidate will be responsible for the training and evaluation of 12‑15 apprentices in a production environment. The candidate should possess strong organizational skills with proficiency in multitasking and scheduling. The candidate will be responsible for all documentation requirements in their area of responsibility.

The candidate should possess a thorough technical knowledge of the trade in their area of responsibility and have a solid educational base, generally gained through the successful completion of the Apprentice program or the equivalent in education and training. The candidate should be able to supervise the work of others, motivate and train employees, and possess strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Should be able to work a variable work schedule including overtime.
