We are seeking a Cooking Instructor for our afterschool program at PS166! This position offers a chance to spark curiosity and creativity in the kitchen while introducing Kindergarten through 5th grade students to the basics of cooking, food science, and nutrition. We’re looking for someone who can create a safe and engaging environment where students can explore new ingredients, follow recipes, and proudly share their creations with loved ones.

Key Responsibilities

Teach age‑appropriate cooking lessons that emphasize fun, safety, and basic culinary skills.

Plan and lead engaging recipes that introduce students to new foods, cultures, and kitchen tools.

Manage and prepare ingredients and materials in advance of each class session.

Guide students through hands‑on activities such as mixing, measuring, chopping, and decorating.

Help students create simple, take‑home recipes or edible projects they can share with their families.

Collaborate with administration to manage student progress and behavioral expectations.

Communicate effectively with management regarding student and program‑related matters.

Use company‑wide digital platforms to perform administrative tasks (e.g., taking attendance, submitting incident reports).

Maintain a clean and organized cooking space, and follow all safety and food‑handling protocols.

This Is You

Experience working with students, preferably elementary age.

Basic kitchen skills and ability to lead hands‑on cooking activities.

Punctual, reliable, and passionate about teaching.

Excellent classroom management and communication skills.

Able to maintain a safe and hygienic learning environment.

The Schedule

Day: Monday & Tuesday (part‑time availability)

Time: 2:40 PM – 5:40 PM (two sessions: 2:40 PM–4:20 PM and 4:20 PM–5:40 PM)

Season starts September 4 th; candidates must commit to the full 2025‑26 school year.

Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in education, nutrition, or a related field.

Teaching experience, preferably with elementary‑level students.

Excellent kitchen tools and safety guidelines.

Ability to inspire and motivate young learners.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in curriculum development.

Experience leading cooking or nutrition‑based classes for youth.

Food handler certification is a plus.
