Hourly Rate: $18.46

Locations: Lake Michie (2802 Bahama Road) and Little River Lake (1500 Orange Factory Road)

Workdays/Hours: Approximately 25 hours per week; March-November; shifts vary 6 am – 6 pm Friday-Monday; reduced hours in the off-season December-February.

Position assists with the daily operation of the two City lakes by assisting customers, maintaining boats and park grounds, and supervising activities in parks and on waterways. Responsibilities include opening and closing facilities, providing boats and permits, collecting payments, keeping records, promoting safety standards, and general oversight of facilities. Work involves considerable public contact as a staff member on site, occasionally working alone.

Duties/Responsibilities

Supervises lake users in a variety of water-based recreational activities.

Rents jon boats, canoes, kayaks, trolling motors and issues PFD’s and ensures proper fit.

Issues boating and fishing permits, collects fees for permits, and maintains cash drawer.

Performs basic checks of equipment and inventory and determines repair needs.

Provides the public with information regarding rules and regulations and assists patrons with guiding crafts in waterways.

Supervises parks and waterways for safety and compliance with rules and regulations.

Maintains records of fees collected.

Knowledge

Safety practices and related hazards of boating.

Best practices for cash handling.

Basic mathematic calculations.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Requires the ability to read, write and follow directions.

One (1) year of experience in boating/fishing activities.

Experience handling money in the workplace.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

A valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.

A valid Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED – with Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto Injector Certification within the first six months of employment.

Additional Preferred Skills

Customer service experience.

Able to de-escalate a situation in which a customer is highly frustrated.

Able to prioritize customer service based on the type of assistance needed.
