Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS) is seeking talented

SEASONAL BIOLOGICAL TECHNICIAN

to join our team in West Sacramento, CA. This role provides hands‑on experience supporting fisheries research and conservation‑focused projects through a combination of field, laboratory, and data‑related work.

This is a seasonal position anticipated to run from February through June 2026, with exact start and end dates dependent on project needs. Work schedules may vary based on field conditions and operational requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform field surveys that include beach seining, tagging, backpack electrofishing, boat‑based sampling, invertebrate collection, spawning, and snorkel, ensuring accurate and thorough data collection.

Record field data using designated applications, ensuring efficient and accurate documentation during field activities using established protocols.

Collect environmental variables and water quality data to support ecological assessments.

Conduct water quality logger maintenance and data download.

Assist with net pen experiments, including feeding, fish health monitoring and maintaining net pens.

Assist with equipment maintenance (e.g., meters, vehicles and boats).

Support fabrication projects, such as modifying and constructing weirs, net pens, and other field equipment to meet specific project requirements.

Perform data entry, accurately transferring collected data into databases for analysis and reporting.

Conduct laboratory work, including video and ARIS review, and salmon id scale preparation.

Safely perform field and laboratory work under supervision across a diverse array of projects, in accordance with established safety standards and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Fisheries, Biology, or related science degree, or minimum of 1-year equivalent related work experience, or combination.

Demonstrated ability to work alone or as part of a team collecting field or laboratory data.

Working knowledge of the scientific method and its application in field experiments.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to convey information effectively to both team members and external stakeholders.

Positive, proactive approach to challenges, with demonstrated ability to adapt to changing conditions, priorities, and unexpected obstacles in the field.

Ability to accurately interpret and follow established protocols, guidelines, and procedures.

Ability to produce accurate, timely, and quality work products assigned by project leaders and be accountable for meeting objectives.

Commitment to safety and compliance with fieldwork standards and organizational policies.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to work long hours in diverse outdoor conditions, such as forests, rivers, streams, and lakes, often in remote locations. This includes working in inclement weather conditions at times.

Ability to climb, jump, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl over uneven surfaces, rocky surfaces, logs, and other natural obstacles.

Ability to effectively and safely drive in inclement weather, including hot, cold, rainy, foggy, or smoky conditions.

Ability to operate non‑motorized vessels, such as rafts and kayaks, in a variety of aquatic environments to support fieldwork.

Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs and performing fieldwork in uneven terrain or cold water.

Ability to be flexible with work hours, including weekends and evenings, and travel to remote areas.

Ability to perform long periods of computerized data management in an office environment.

PAY RANGE: $20.00 - $23.00/hour. Final compensation at Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS) is determined based on internal equity, relevant qualifications and experience and market considerations.

BENEFITS: Paid sick leave with accruals starting on first day of employment and voluntary 401(k) eligibility for company plan.
