The City of Chandler Fire Department is seeking qualified individuals to join our team as a
Firefighter . The closing date for this position is January 18, 2026. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to take the written examination through the National Testing Network (NTN) starting January 19, 2026. Why work for Chandler? The Department handles fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), hazardous materials response, technical rescue, and crisis intervention. It supports fire prevention, EMS and training divisions, a mechanical maintenance facility, a community preparedness office, and department administration. The primary function is to protect life and property within the City of Chandler and surrounding communities, including responding to and mitigating emergency and non-emergency incidents such as fires, emergency rescue, hazardous materials response, EMS, welfare of the community, and maintaining public safety within the Fire Department’s response area. Minimum qualifications include: A high school diploma or GED equivalency at time of application Be at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of application CPAT certification within 12 months prior to hire date (proof required at time of conditional offer) Ability to obtain and maintain Arizona EMT Certification prior to graduation from the Fire Academy (or proof of current EMT certification prior to graduation) Ability to obtain and maintain Firefighter I & II certifications prior to graduation from the Fire Academy Ability to pass a medical evaluation for a tight-fitting respirator per CFR 1910.134 by hire date and maintain certification Meet and maintain NFPA 1582 Essential Job Tasks (Chapter 5.1) Valid Arizona Driver’s License with acceptable driving record Any equivalent combination of experience and training to perform the work Candidates with non-Arizona certifications or non-NREMT EMS certifications must meet all requirements to obtain Arizona EMT certification. Chandler’s Firefighter Hiring Process Application accepted January 5, 2026 – January 18, 2026 NTN Written Exam – Invitation Only January 19, 2026 – February 15, 2026 First Oral Board (anticipated March 2–6, 2026) Second Oral Board (anticipated March 23–27, 2026) Candidate Assessment Program (CAP) (anticipated April 11–May 9, 2026, Saturdays only) All applicants must attain favorable results in each examination phase to qualify for the next phase. The Human Resources department reserves the right to change the process without notice if deemed necessary. Important notes The application and required documentation MUST be submitted by Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 11:59 PM for eligibility to participate in the written examination. Applicants who meet minimum requirements to test will be invited to the Written Exam. The Written Exam will be offered through NTN during January 19 – February 15. NTN scores are valid for one year from the test date. NTN registration is invitation-only and detailed instructions will be provided to qualified applicants by January 19, 2026.
