Head Start Teacher – Boulder County Community Services Department, Boulder, CO. Full-time, exempt – $55,116.00 - $67,254.00 per year. Closing date: 1/19/2026 11:59 PM Mountain Time.
Job Overview The Head Start Teacher is responsible for creating and implementing a developmentally appropriate, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment for children ages 3–5 years. The teacher works in partnership with families, staff, and community partners to promote children’s school readiness by fostering their cognitive, social–emotional, language, and physical development in alignment with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (ELOF) and Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS).
Schedule & Location Monday–Friday, 7:45 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. Office: 2850 Mapleton Ave., Boulder, Colorado. Boulder County requires employees to reside in Colorado as of the first day of work.
Responsibilities
Plan and implement daily lesson plans that align with the approved curriculum and individual learning goals for children.
Create a safe, healthy, and engaging learning environment that supports the diverse needs of children and families.
Conduct ongoing child assessments and maintain accurate documentation using approved tools (e.g., Teaching Strategies GOLD).
Develop and maintain respectful, responsive relationships with families; participate in home visits and parent–teacher conferences.
Guide and support classroom staff, including Teacher Assistants, Classroom Aides, Interns, and volunteers.
Collaborate with Education, Family, and Health Services staff to ensure integrated services.
Maintain compliance with HSPPS, CO state licensing requirements, and local health and safety regulations.
Participate in learning and development, reflective supervision, team meetings, and coaching activities.
Support positive child behavior and use developmentally appropriate guidance techniques.
Perform related work as required; may be reassigned during emergency situations.
Qualifications
Minimum of one year of preschool teaching experience.
Associate degree (AA) in early childhood education or related field with coursework equivalent to a major in early childhood education (30 credits), and experience teaching preschool-age children.
Candidate with a CDA in early childhood education who is working toward or willing to obtain an AA within three years of hire is also eligible.
Special Requirements
State credential: Early Childhood Professional Credential 2.0 or 3.0, issued through the Colorado Shines/PDIS system.
CPR/First Aid and Medication Administration certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Current MyTeaching Strategies Inner‑Rater Reliability for Preschool certification, including Dual‑Language Learners and Children with Disabilities, or ability to obtain within one month of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual in English and Spanish; additional compensation will be provided based on use of bilingual skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
Head Start experience.
Experience with TS Gold and Creative Curriculum.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Working knowledge of early childhood education practices and principles.
Good organization and time‑management skills.
Ability to supervise and instruct preschool children and children with special needs individually and in groups.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with diverse families, including families living in poverty.
