The Town of Guilderland is accepting applications from candidates interested in applying for the position of Water Treatment Plant Laborer in the Water & Wastewater Department. Starting salary range: $19.78 - 22.42 /hour Hours: Monday – Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm Essential Functions
Learn conventional water treatment theory and demonstrate the ability to apply that theory to actual operations. Learn to monitor and operate gages, flow meters, charts, computer control systems, etc. Learn to conduct water analysis tests such as hardness, alkalinity, pH, and chlorine residual and color analysis for treatment process control. Learn how to perform Jar Testing and relate the significance of the results in relation to chemical dosing. Learn to maintain daily operation and lab logs. Learn to perform preventative maintenance on plant equipment. Learn to collect water samples to monitor and analyze residuals for disinfection and fluoridation. Perform building and ground maintenance as needed including mowing, painting, cleaning, etc. Learn safe handling techniques for chemicals including: chlorine, fluoride, and caustic soda. Will learn and apply all proper safety procedures for confined space entry, lockout/tagout and other respective personal safety protocol. Become familiar with plant operation manuals and procedures including but not limited to: safety, treatment, maintenance, chemical usage and emergency operations. Learn to perform minor preventative maintenance on plant equipment. Learn theory and operations of the Granulated Activated Carbon System. Become familiar with the rules and regulations of the Town of Guilderland. Become familiar with the NY State Department of Health Sanitary codes concerning water plant operations (Including Part 5). Learn to promote positive relationships and work effectively and courteously with co-workers and outside plant associates. Be willing, when qualified, to be placed in on-call rotation, which includes 24-hour accessibility, and weekend work. Required physical activity
The primary duties for this position will be to perform daily scheduled water sampling and routine checks of various pump stations around the town. Water Plant duties may involve occasional confined space entry and use of ladders. Qualification Standards
