Summary:
St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School is seeking dedicated, faith-filled teachers who desire to cultivate a love of learning and a love of the Lord in their students through the beauty of the Catholic intellectual tradition. Having opened in the fall of 2025 with PK3-6th grade, we plan both to expand through 7th grade and increase the number of class sections in earlier grade levels this coming school year. Teachers will be immediately responsible to the principal for the carrying out of policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they relate to the function of the school, the classroom, and immediate contact with students and parents.
Position Responsibilities
Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic classical education and the mission of the school
Acts as a witness to Gospel values by joyfully modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees
Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis; ensures the safety and well-being of self and others
Adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy
Takes a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings
Acts as a team player; promotes collaboration and commitment to the mission, vision, and culture of the school
Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
Performs other duties as assigned
Planning & Instruction
Develops and implements lessons aligned with Catholic classical curriculum and pedagogy; meets campus-wide lesson planning requirements
Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Department of Catholic Schools (DCS), and administrative regulations
Collaborates with other faculty to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to DSC requirements
Makes learning accessible for all students by incorporating accommodations and modifications into lessons as applicable
Creates a classroom environment of joyful order to allow for fruitful learning to take place
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and uses results to plan instructional activities
Plans and supervises assignments of teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s), if applicable
Assists in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as required
Student Growth & Development
Coaches students to develop moral and intellectual virtue
Supports student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
Supervises students during non-instructional periods of the day (i.e., recess, dismissal, etc.) and during school-sponsored activities (i.e., field trips, academic celebrations, etc.)
Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned
Communication & Organization
Maintains an accurate, up-to-date, gradebook and periodically provides both narrative evaluations and overall grades for students
Establishes and maintains open communication with parents, students, principals, and fellow faculty members
Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
Compiles, maintains, and files all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents as required
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Professional Development
Participates in faculty development activities to grow in love of the Catholic intellectual tradition and the ability to enact a Catholic classical curriculum with excellence
Attends and participates in faculty meetings; serves on staff committees as required
Keeps informed of and complies with DCS regulations and policies for classroom teachers
Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Education
Education
A Bachelor’s degree either A) in content area taught, B) with 18 credit hours in content area taught, OR C) with the completion of appropriate state certification exam
Experience
2+ years of teaching experience preferred
License and Credentials
12 credit hours in education courses
or
a valid, appropriate state certificate, as outlined in the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards
Technology proficiency in the areas of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet use for educational purposes
Demonstrated competency in the assigned subject area(s)
Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
Practicing Catholic
Knowledge of classical education OR a desire to learn about and implement a Catholic classical curriculum
Subject-matter knowledge
Ability to instruct students and help them meet academic and behavioral expectations
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Organized, self-motivated, and able to work well independently and on a team
Good written and verbal communication skills
Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills
May be required to work some weekends and nights
Required to work a minimum of a full school day
