Overview EML, LLC is looking to hire a hard-working custodian to add to our team. Our custodial team is responsible for providing a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment for our government partners. This custodian will ensure the buildings and areas we are responsible for are tidy, clean, and well-maintained. Custodians are responsible for snow removal, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, dusting surfaces and floor restoration and maintenance. You will clean walls, restrooms, locker rooms, office space, warehouses, ceilings, windows, and other surfaces and spaces, and other tasks that will vary. You will help prevent and eliminate indoor pests and be responsible for reporting damage and removing waste.

Custodian Responsibilities

Keeps buildings, equipment, and property in clean and orderly condition.

Performs Snow and ice removal.

Performs routine floor and equipment maintenance activities.

Performs heavy cleaning duties.

Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors.

Gathers and empties trash, compost, recycling and other varied waste and recycling materials.

Scrubs, sanitizes, and services breakrooms, restrooms, locker rooms and other facilities.

Dusts and cleans furniture, walls, ledges, doors and other surfaces.

Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions.

Properly uses and prepares cleaning solutions and chemicals, and ensures containers are properly labeled.

Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.

Cleans and polishes fixtures and furniture.

Extracts, bonnet, scrubs or cleans carpets and rugs.

Properly disposes of waste and recycling in the correct containers and ensures it is accurately tracked.

Helps manage inventory of cleaning supplies.

Covers for team members on leave.

Performs floor restoration such as, but not limited to, stripping and waxing.

Performs high cleaning up to 26 feet with the use of a ladder or lift.

Other Requirements

Will be required to perform duties in multiple buildings throughout the same campus.

Required to work in a team or independently.

Required to pass a federal background check and obtain the appropriate security clearance.

Required to pass a physical and drug test.

Required to lift, carry, push, and pull 50 lbs. repetitively. This position requires a lot of physical labor and includes lifting, stretching, crutching and other movements associated with cleaning various areas.

Required to notify manager or leads regarding the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.

Required to work weekends periodically. This varies, depending on need and is most common in winter for snow removal.

Benefits, Hours & Wage Typical scheduled hours for this position are Monday - Friday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Hours will vary due to coverage of team members, special projects, and snow removal. Hours can and will vary from 4:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday - Sunday.

This position offers a starting wage of $21.52 per hour. A retirement benefit of $4.31 per hour, up to 40 hours a week and 2,080 hours a year. While performing snow removal there is a $1.00 per hour increase in wage. Vision, Dental and Health insurance are provided by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No.1, after the probationary period of 30 days and receipt/approval of all union documents. 7 Sick leave and 2 PTO days are provided after 30 days but prorated based on date of hire. 10 days of vacation will be provided after 1 year of continuous service on the anniversary date and at the beginning of each year thereafter.

Custodian Qualifications / Skills

Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, and reach for many hours.

Ability to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time.

Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, other similar equipment, and cleaning solutions.

Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals.

Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules.

Communication skills.

Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and work at heights or difficult positions.

Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalent

Basic math skills

Basic reading and comprehension skills
