We are seeking motivated and detail-oriented Field Technicians to join our team in Abingdon, VA. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals interested in utility field work, telecom, and engineering design support.
As a Field Technician, you’ll collect and document data on power poles, fiber, and other utility equipment that will be used in utility design and records updates. This role offers the chance to build a foundation for future career paths in design, GIS, and CAD drafting while working outdoors and gaining hands-on experience in the utility industry.
You’ll primarily work independently in the field, traveling from site to site, with occasional collaboration alongside senior engineers and designers.
Key Responsibilities
Collect and document field data on utility facilities, including measurements, equipment inventory, mapping, and photography.
Accurately record data using electronic data collection devices, GPS receivers, range finders, or paper-based tools as required.
Assist design teams by providing complete, accurate field documentation that supports utility design and construction projects.
Identify and document power poles, fiber lines, pole-mounted equipment, and telecom infrastructure.
Apply safety standards at all times and actively participate in company safety initiatives.
Meet production goals and deliver accurate data within project deadlines.
Work outdoors in a variety of conditions, traveling between multiple locations daily.
Support emergency power restoration efforts as needed (e.g., wire sitter, runner, driver).
Required Skills & Qualifications
Previous field experience (utility, telecom, construction, or related industry preferred).
Knowledge of power poles, fiber lines, pole-mounted equipment, and/or telecom equipment.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately record and report measurements.
Familiarity with GIS systems, CAD drafting, or data collection technology a plus.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and remain self-motivated in the field.
Excellent communication skills and reliability in meeting project expectations.
Solid work history and proven commitment to safety and quality.
Must have a reliable personal vehicle; company fleet vehicles may be available but are not guaranteed.

Candidates must live within 30 minutes of Abingdon, VA.
Field Technicians typically leave from home and travel directly to job sites, rarely reporting to an office.
Occasional overnight travel may be required depending on project needs.
