About the Position Auto Technician

– In this learning‑focused, mentee‑style role you will work side‑by‑side with skilled technicians to recondition and repair incoming inventory for delivery to dealerships. The reconditioning process includes identifying mechanical and physical problems and completing repairs to correct them.

Essential Job Functions

Assist experienced technicians in identifying and understanding mechanical issues with incoming vehicle inventory.

Perform basic maintenance tasks—tire rotations, brake inspections, fluid checks—after completing necessary certifications.

Learn and demonstrate proper use of tools required for general vehicle repairs.

Safely move vehicles to and from the Inspection Center lot and shop as needed.

Support senior technicians and management in determining whether to repair or reject inventory based on repair cost estimates and overall vehicle quality.

Conduct test drives on repaired vehicles to confirm all issues have been properly resolved.

Follow all safety protocols and procedures to help prevent accidents or injuries.

Foster positive working relationships with technicians and other Inspection Center staff.

Participate in ongoing technical training as required or available.

Follow DriveTime’s policies, procedures, and ethical standards and represent the company positively.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong active listening skills.

Basic knowledge of vehicle systems and components.

Willingness to learn and grow skills in the automotive industry.

Ability to work well in a high‑functioning team environment.

Detail‑oriented.

Work Experience / Education

High School Diploma or GED required.

Valid driver’s license and insurable DMV records required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Enrollment in an auto technician institute or at least 1 year of automotive industry experience preferred.

Physical Demands

Safety‑sensitive position.

Must communicate in English.

Requires visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate vehicles and machinery.

May need to lift or move objects up to 60 pounds.

Requires use of safety equipment (face shield, goggles, gloves, etc.).

May work in cold, hot, noisy, wet environments with fumes or odors.
