Job Summary
The Special Education resource paraeducator assists the supervising teacher by performing a variety of tasks to support instruction and classroom programming. The special education paraeducator works under the direction of the supervising teacher. The main responsibilities are to provide direct services to students, supervise and monitor instructional activities, assist with behavior management, and support classroom resources.
Essential Functions
Implement drill and practice exercises designed by the teacher for groups and individual students.
Keep accurate data on assigned groups and/or individual students.
Supervise and monitor student instructional activities within the school and assigned community settings.
Provide personal maintenance care for students, including self‑help and hygiene tasks.
Implement appropriate procedures for managing student behavior in accordance with district policies.
Support a school environment that helps students develop a positive self‑concept.
Use classroom materials and technology appropriately.
Assist students in regular classes.
Prepare and adapt instructional materials under the direction of the classroom teacher.
Maintain professional confidentiality regarding student progress.
Work assigned hours and may include bus supervision.
Participate in professional development training required by the Special Education Department.
Required Education and Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
For Title 1 schools: 48 hours of college credit or pass the ParaPro exam.
Required Prior Experience
Prior work with individuals with disabilities preferred.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Follow directions from the special education teacher for instruction, behavior interventions, and functional skill development.
Skilled in the operation of achievement testing and data collection.
Effectively manage stress.
Interactions with Others
Interact positively with students, parents, staff, teachers, administration, and district personnel.
Other Information
