Job Summary Ecustodian 1 is a self‑motivated, independent worker position within Custodial Services. Responsibilities include sanitation of restrooms, floor and window care, general cleaning of building interiors and surrounding areas, emptying garbage and recycling, arrangement of furniture for campus events, and other custodial duties as required. The position requires a minimum salary of $41,844 up to $49,296 based on education, experience, and skills. Salary Information Salary range $41,844 (minimum) to $49,296, dependent on education, experience, and skills.

Required Qualifications • Minimum age of 18. • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. • High School Diploma or GED. • Ability to learn institutional custodial techniques and requirements. • Excellent customer service skills. • Team‑oriented with flexibility to assist coworkers campus‑wide. • Ability to work any shifts and any days. • Ability to read, write, and understand written documents. • Responsive and flexible approach supportive to the needs of, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff and the public.

Preferred Qualifications • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of various custodial equipment. • Prior professional housekeeping or custodial experience. • Institutional or industrial custodial experience. • Ability to work overtime/extended hours on occasion.

Job Duties • 20% Time: Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washer, high speed buffers and vacuum, broom, mop, squeegee for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc. Requires riding equipment where required. • 20% Time: Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies (mix only as directed). Perform cleaning and related activities in areas within a reasonable distance from buildings using hand‑operated tools or small power equipment (e.g., removing snow or debris, sweeping sidewalks or stairs). Perform maid services in housing if required. May assist in other areas when necessary. • 15% Time: Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor sealer and floor finish; vacuum and shampoo carpets. • 10% Time: Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms and fixtures in accordance with established practices and procedures. • 10% Time: Clean, dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty wastebaskets and trash containers; empty and clean ashtrays and cigarette urns; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers. • 10% Time: Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments. • 5% Time: Wash interior or easily accessible exterior windows. Cleaning rags and dust mops. • 3% Time: Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc. • 3% Time: Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis. • 2% Time: Process recycling. • 2% Time: Lock and unlock assigned buildings; secure building when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; report any unauthorized occupants; turn out lights.

Conditions of Employment Workdays and shift times may vary in response to customer needs for special event coverage and/or departmental needs. Management retains the right and discretion to modify schedules, building assignments, shifts and/or days for operational purposes. The position can be physically demanding and requires passing a pre‑placement physical (paid by EWU) and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Position includes prolonged periods of standing and walking, climbing stairs, frequent reaching above shoulders, and repeated bending, kneeling, pulling and pushing. The role may involve receipt of or accountability for university funds or other items of value, as well as unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. Offer contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment. All new employees must comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602‑02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU; waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs. Work uniforms are provided by EWU. After starting employment, employees will complete required training via Canvas. Workplace Belonging training will be available on December 1st and should be completed by March 31st, 2026.
