R-089127**Job Title**Academic Advisor**Agency**Texas A&M University - Victoria**Department**Nursing Program**Proposed Minimum Salary**$3,111.33 monthly**Job Location**Victoria, Texas**Job Type**Staff**Job Description**Primary Duties:Program-related activities and university services may require an additional on-campus presence.• Advises enrolled and prospective students regarding academic programs, curriculum, academic policies and procedures, and available campus resources; aids students in course selection each semester.• Analyzes, processes, and verifies degree plans, transfer credit applicability, graduation applications, general petitions, major changes, and financial aid consortiums.• Assists with development of internal policies regarding student transfer between success coaches and colleges, proactive advising strategies, and general advisement policies for the college.• Develops and maintains positive student relationships to ensure a high degree of student satisfaction; builds an effective network linking potential and existing students to university resources.• Provides guidance and advice to students on academic success strategies, major and career exploration; monitors student progress through regular meetings, phone, and email; collaborates with faculty and supervisor to encourage at-risk students.• Interprets and communicates academic policies and procedures to students; assists with training new hires; and may assist with back-end on-line degree audit maintenance.• Collaborates with campus resources such as Recruitment, Career Services, Student Success Center, and other colleges and departments to encourage academic success and retention.• Assists with analyzing data to identify prospective students; identifies issues that impact student recruitment and performance; and collaborates with supervisor to create strategies to advance student enrollment and academic success.• Researches and stays abreast of current advising trends and best practices, agreements with community colleges, changes to core and major curriculum, and university policies and procedures related to student advising.• Assists with recruitment activities and events, and college case conferences and comprehensive exams.• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Supervisor:Director, NursingSubordinates:NoneJob Requirements:Education & Experience:Bachelor's degree in student counseling, business administration or related field and (2) years related experienceKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities:• Broad knowledge of student academic advising, admission requirements, related university policies and procedures, and the university’s programs• Excellent advising and counseling skills to ascertain student needs and determine appropriate actions• Ability to interact effectively with a diverse student population• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with administration, faculty, and students• Excellent written communication skills and ability to compose own correspondence and reports• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment and act upon decisions within scope of delegated authorityPC Skills:• Proficiency with PC software applications in a Windows environmentWorking Conditions:Work is generally performed in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and favorable temperatures. Ability to work flexible hours, including late afternoons and evenings.All positions are security-sensitive.
