General Summary & Scope The Master Stylist engages guests, consults on their hair care needs, recommends products and services, and delivers high‑quality professional services emphasizing the guest’s total look. Supports the Experience Manager and Assistant Services Manager in performance, people, and process areas.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities Performance
Perform hair services: design, haircut, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (where applicable).
Meet or exceed a sales goal of $1,250 average weekly and productivity goals for hair services.
Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance guest experience.
Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services.
Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
People
Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations.
Serve all guests, including walk‑ins, timely and efficiently.
Partner with skin therapists and the retail team for a total‑store experience.
Establish professional peer and brand partner relationships.
Share benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
Attend mandatory trainings and meetings.
Process
Know and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services.
Follow established service protocols for consistency and exceptional experience.
Use booking and clientele systems for return services and events.
Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager.
Maintain store operational standards: salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and other areas.
Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
Apply loss‑prevention best practices.
Execute other operational tasks as directed.
Job Qualifications Education
Cosmetology license.
Experience
Previous relevant work experience is required.
Skills
Proficiency with latest salon techniques for cutting, coloring, lightening, styling, textures, treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing.
Proficiency with equipment and chemicals needed for technical work.
Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell pro hair care and makeup products.
Developed communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.
Special Position Requirements
Work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions
Continuous mobility during shift.
Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs during shift.
Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting during shift.
Ability to stand for long periods of time during shift.
Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.
Compensation The pay range is $20.00–$20.00 per hour with opportunity for services pay pursuant to the Company’s Services Compensation Plan. Pay is based on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay and tips paid by service guests. Full‑time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits. Part‑time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
